Shortcuts, display setup, and answers before you buy.
While ScreenOFF is running, press Alt + Space to turn off the selected monitor after a two-second countdown. Press the shortcut again during the countdown, or press Escape, to cancel. ScreenOFF uses this combination globally, replacing the usual Windows window-menu shortcut until you exit the app.
Yes. Select the monitor in ScreenOFF, then click its power button or use Alt + Space. The app sends a DDC/CI power command to that display; it does not request Windows sleep or shutdown. Your ordinary Windows sleep settings still apply.
Press Alt + Space again to request a wake command for the selected display. Wake behavior depends on the monitor. If it stops accepting DDC/CI commands while off, use its physical power button. Mouse movement or typing may not wake a display powered off this way.
You can choose an individual supported external display in a multi-monitor setup. DDC/CI support must be enabled in the monitor settings. Built-in laptop panels typically do not expose the external-monitor DDC/CI power controls this app needs.
Turning a monitor off controls its display power. It does not lock your Windows account. Use Windows + L when you want to lock your PC.
No installer or activation key is required. ScreenOFF is a portable Windows app delivered as a ZIP. Pay USD 3.99 once through PayPal, download it after payment, and keep your copy. It does not start automatically with Windows.
Open the display dropdown. ScreenOFF shows name badges on connected displays not marked off, with a white border on the selected display. Close the dropdown or switch apps to dismiss the badges. The screen-off shortcut pauses while you configure screens.
Double-click a display name, or press F2, to rename it. Drag its grip to change its order, or use Control + Up/Down. Enter saves a name; Escape cancels the edit. A blank name restores the default.
Names, ordering, and selection save automatically on your PC. Saved entries remain when a monitor disconnects. Moving a display to a different port or adapter can give it a new Windows identity. These preferences do not change your Windows display arrangement.
Use Rescan screens after reconnecting a display or enabling DDC/CI. It refreshes monitor connections, keeps your selection when possible, and cancels any pending countdown without sending power commands.
Individual monitor power control needs DDC/CI support from the monitor and the connection. Enable DDC/CI in the monitor’s own menu, then rescan. Some cables, adapters, docks, and built-in panels do not expose the required controls. ScreenOFF does not fall back to turning off every screen.
A DDC/CI power command can behave differently from a Windows display timeout. Use Alt + Space to request a wake command. Some monitors stop listening while off and need their physical power button.
ScreenOFF sends a power command to the selected monitor; it does not close your apps or request PC sleep. Tasks continue as allowed by Windows and the apps themselves. Your existing system sleep settings still apply.
ScreenOFF controls the selected supported monitor. Choose another display when you want to control it. It does not silently switch to an all-screens-off command when individual control is unavailable.
Closing or minimizing the window hides ScreenOFF in the system tray. The global shortcut remains available. Open ScreenOff.exe again to restore the existing window. Right-click its tray icon to exit completely.
The shortcut can be unavailable if another app has registered it. Use ScreenOFF’s power button instead. While ScreenOFF owns the shortcut, the usual Windows window-menu action is replaced; exiting restores that behavior.
The label reflects the last successful power command, not a live power measurement. Command history is not restored as monitor state when the app restarts.
ScreenOFF sends a supported monitor power command through DDC/CI. It does not place a black window over your desktop or change screen brightness. The colored monitors on this website are an interactive demonstration.
Powering down an unused display can reduce its active use, but the result depends on the monitor and its supported power mode. ScreenOFF does not promise a specific energy saving or burn-in prevention. Follow the display manufacturer’s care guidance.
